Full Answer
The Generative AI report lives inside Search Console's performance section and adds a new filter for AI Overviews and AI Mode. You can see which of your URLs appeared in AI-generated answers, how many impressions those appearances generated, and which queries triggered them. That is useful context — it tells you whether Google's AI considers your content authoritative enough to cite.
What it cannot do is measure business impact. The report has no click column, no conversion data, and no integration with GA4 or any analytics platform. An impression in AI Mode means your URL appeared in an answer — it does not mean anyone visited your store. Google has not explained whether it will add click tracking in future, and the current architecture suggests the gap may be structural: AI Mode answers are designed to satisfy the query without requiring a click.
The larger blind spot is scope. The report covers only Google's AI surfaces. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Copilot — which collectively drive a growing share of AI-referred traffic — are entirely invisible to Search Console. WooCommerce stores that rely on this report alone will see only a fraction of their AI visibility. Server-side log analysis and structured data monitoring remain the only way to measure AI citation and referral traffic across all platforms, not just Google's.
